The goal of hacking.community is a high-signal, respectful, and inclusive community for people who take security seriously. These Community Guidelines complement our Acceptable Use Policy and apply everywhere on the Platform: Q&A, communities, comments, direct messages, marketplace, job board, and chat.
1. Treat people with respect
- Be civil. Critique code, ideas, and techniques — not the person.
- No harassment, hate speech, slurs, sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, or discrimination of any kind.
- No personal attacks, threats, intimidation, or doxxing.
- No sexual content. No nudity. No sexualised content involving anyone under 18 — ever.
2. Content standards
- Be accurate. Don't post information you know is misleading or wrong.
- Cite sources. If you're paraphrasing a paper, blog post, or vendor advisory, link to it.
- Be original where you claim originality. Don't pass off others' work as yours; see our Copyright & DMCA Policy.
- Keep it on-topic. Marketing, recruiting outside the jobs board, MLM pitches, crypto-shilling, and unsolicited offers will be removed.
- No spam, low-effort, or AI-spam content. AI-assisted writing is fine; AI-generated junk to farm karma is not.
- English by default. Posts in other languages are welcome in language-specific communities; please tag accordingly.
3. Q&A etiquette
- Search before posting — duplicates may be merged.
- Include what you've tried and the exact error / behaviour.
- Tag your question accurately.
- Mark the answer that solved your problem as accepted.
- Edit, don't delete — once others have answered, removing the question wastes their effort.
4. Direct messages, chat, and recruitment
- Direct messages are end-to-end encrypted. Use them for real conversations, not spam.
- Recruiters: don't cold-message users who have not set themselves as "open to opportunities".
- No mass-marketing pitches. No payment-required-up-front offers (typical scam pattern).
- Off-platform contact is allowed once both parties consent — but the Platform's safety guarantees end at our boundary.
5. Marketplace & jobs board
See our Marketplace Policy for the full content rules. Listings and job posts must be accurate, must not violate the AUP, and must comply with local labour and consumer-protection laws.
6. Reporting & moderation
If you see a violation:
- Use the in-app report button on the post, listing, profile, or message.
- Pick a reason; add detail if you can.
- Don't engage publicly — let our moderation team handle it.
For urgent or sensitive reports (threats, CSAM, criminal activity) email legal@hacking.community directly.
Frivolous or bad-faith reports may themselves be moderated.
7. Consequences for violations
Our response scales with the violation and your history:
- Warning — minor first-time issues; the post is removed or edited and we explain why.
- Temporary suspension — repeat or significant issues; account paused for 7–30 days.
- Permanent ban — egregious or repeated violations; account deleted, marketplace listings removed, refunds processed where appropriate.
- Referral to authorities — when the conduct is criminal.
You can appeal a moderation decision once by emailing legal@hacking.community within 14 days of the action.
8. Working with staff
Moderators and admins are paid (or volunteer) members of our team. They have additional tools to enforce these guidelines. They are also bound by these guidelines — please report any moderator misconduct to legal@hacking.community.
